General Types of Hypertension

There are three general types of hypertension.

1. Essential hypertension occurs when the condition has no known cause. 
2. Secondary hypertension - when hypertension is caused by another condition or disease process
3. Isolated systolic hypertension - when the systolic blood pressure number (the top number) is high, common in older adults.
